Salzburg Paragliding FAQs
All Your Tandem Questions Answered
Pre-Flight Concerns
1.
I’m afraid of heights, can I do paragliding?
Absolutely! Many people with a fear of heights enjoy paragliding! Unlike standing on a ledge, you'll be sitting comfortably in your harness and flying with a certified pilot by your side. The gentle forward motion after takeoff and the breathtaking views will be surprising. Think of it as soaring like a bird - a safe and exhilarating way to experience Salzburg's beauty.
2.
How safe is tandem paragliding in Salzburg?
Tandem paragliding prioritizes safety. Our pilots undergo rigorous training and pass comprehensive exams in meteorology, theory, passenger care and practical flying to become Tandem Pilots with Austrian standards certifications. This expertise significantly reduces the risks during your flight. Tandem paragliding boasts a very good safety record, even compared to common activities like driving.
3.
What happens if I get sick during the flight?
While motion sickness is uncommon (affecting only about 2-3% of flyers), we understand it's a concern. Our highly trained pilots can recognize early signs and offer helpful tips to manage or prevent nausea, such as focusing on the horizon, visually following the turn or taking deep breaths. We also provide airsick bags just in case, and your pilot will descend progressively to land at the first suitable opportunity if needed.
4.
Is paragliding suitable for people with disabilities?
We're passionate about sharing the magic of paragliding with everyone, and we strive to be as inclusive as possible. Safety is always our top priority, so some physical requirements are necessary. However, we can accommodate a wide range of disabilities with proper planning and communication. For example, we can adjust our harnesses and flying techniques to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. To assess your individual needs and suitability, please contact us for a consultation. We can discuss your disability, answer any questions, and determine if paragliding is a good fit for you. Additionally, our launch-landing site is easily accessible, making the pre-flight process smooth and comfortable.
Transport and Weather
5.
What happens if there's bad weather on my flight day?
If the weather forecast indicates unsuitable conditions for paragliding (such as strong winds or rain), we'll contact you 1-2 days in advance to discuss alternative flight dates. We'll happily reschedule your flight free of charge, or if no suitable dates are available, you'll receive a full refund.
6.
What are the weight and height restrictions for paragliding?
Our tandem paragliding equipment is certified for a wide range of heights (approximately 99cm to 210cm) thanks to fully adjustable harnesses. Weight-wise, we can comfortably fly with passengers between 20 kg and 115kg. If you're close to the upper weight limit (between 95 kg and 115kg), afternoon flights (11:45 - 16:15) are recommended due to more favorable thermal conditions. For any questions or if you're slightly above the weight limit but in good physical condition, feel free to call us! We're happy to discuss your situation.
